After concluding a medical mission in the Dominican Republic in 1995, James G. Diller, M.D. and Lawrence V. Conway, PhD recognized that there was a critical need to provide a more efficient and effective operational model to coordinate the healthcare needs of individuals in various countries with limited financial, economic and healthcare resources with those countries having more adequate medical resources. Early on, these concerned professionals and other individuals realized that it would be most appropriate to create a seamless conduit between those individuals and groups with healthcare needs and those entities having more available resources. Consequently, steps were taken to create an organizational structure to systematically solve this problem. After reviewing various options, the group concluded that a charitable foundation should be established. The founders determined that the charitable foundation should be dedicated to providing healthcare facilities and services to our less fortunate brothers and sisters throughout the world.
To fulfill our mission objects, the Diller Foundation, named in honor of Dr. James G. Diller was organized in 1997. Dr. Diller, a reconstruction surgeon, is an internationally renowned medical missionary who has spent the major portion of his professional medical career providing medical care on a volunteer basis to needy patients in many third world countries.
During the following years, the Diller Foundation infrastructure was developed. Included in the developmental process was the formulation of a business and strategic plan in order to achieve our institutional objectives. In 1999 the Diller Foundation adopted the corporate form of an organization. In the same year the Foundation was chartered as a non-profit charitable Ohio corporation. In the following year, pursuant to our corporate mission objectives, the Foundation distributed 56 tons of hospital equipment as well as medical supplies to hospital and medical clinics in eight different countries. The countries include Columbia, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, the Philippines, Nigeria, Russia and Senegal.
In 2001 the Diller Foundation received 501 c (3) status. This status enabled the Foundation to expand its humanitarian activities and efforts.
Where the Diller Foundation is now . . .
Born out of the recognition that the worldwide community of individuals
requires us to serve the healthcare needs of our less endowed brothers
and sisters, the Diller Foundation continues to strive to fulfill our
organization’s goals. We recognized that we are part of a larger community
and that if the larger community suffers, we also suffer.
We endeavor to serve the larger world community by providing on a gratuitous basis not only hospital and medical equipment, as well as medical supplies, but also volunteer medical, dental, nurse and public health personnel.
We recognize that each of the components is necessary in order to meet the most pressing needs of our less endowed brothers and sisters throughout the world.
Where is the Diller Foundation Going to Go?
The Diller Foundation is an organization with a vision but with a practical
orientation. The Foundation recognizes that its resources are limited
by the generosity and willingness of community minded individuals to
help the poorest of the poor. We may not be able improve the quality
of living for some individuals forever, maybe not for a year. Maybe
not for a week. Maybe just for a day.
The Diller Foundation endeavors to expand its operations to maximize its humanitarian efforts to provide more adequate health care resources to those individuals who have little if any medical resources or facilities available to them in order that they might enjoy a better quality of life. We will endeavor to give hope to those who have little hope. The Foundation will endeavor to fulfill our guiding philosophy of “Love in Action.”
