Programs
Dorothy MacKenzie Price, a Toledo native, has a long history of commitment, service, and philanthropy within our metropolitan area. Her philosophy has always centered on the idea of "Making a Difference." She understands the importance of making a meaningful contribution to the quality of life and a significant difference in the lives of our brothers and sisters throughout the world. It has always been her belief that if students would have the opportunity to experience medicine outside the confines of the United States they would return changed forever.

Not only would they have a better understanding and appreciation of our own medical system, but also they would become more compassionate, and thus better, physicians.

There are several scholarship programs available to assist individuals interested in contributing their efforts to the cause of humanity.

Student Humanitarian of the Year Award
This scholarship award, funded by a grant from Dorothy MacKenzie Price, is designed to recognize a medical student who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment through his/her medical efforts to improving the quality of living of his brothers and sisters. This award, presented in conjunction with the Diller Foundation, is made at the Annual Commencement Program at the Medical University of Ohio. Further information about this Program may be obtained from Dr. Casabianca.

Pre-Medical, Dental, Nurse and Public Health Student Mentorship Program
To enable pre-medical, dental, nurse and public health students to benefit from the knowledge, skills, experience and wisdom of professional practitioners, a unique mentorship program has been established at the University of Toledo under the direction of Andrew J. Casabianca, DMO., M.D. Further information about this program may be obtained by contacting Dr. Casabianca.

Travel Assistance Awards Available for Students Interested in Participating in Medical Mission Programs
A special travel assistance program is available through the Diller Foundation to enable students who are interesting in participating in a medical program to do so without paying the full cost. This program is open to all students at all educational levels and is available to all students who are interested in a medical mission program anywhere in the world. Further information about this program may be obtained from Dr. Casabianca.

The James G. Diller Foundation, with the generous support of Dorothy MacKenzie Price, is pleased to announce the initiation of a travel stipend award program. This monetary award is available to all students (not just medical students) to help defray the costs associated with medical mission trips and related activities. Recipients will have distinguished themselves by showing a commitment to “Making a Difference”. The desire to help those in need is an obvious requirement, but the willingness to take that compassion outside the borders of the United States is essential.

The stipends are monetary awards of up to $1,000.00 to assist with expenses associated with a medical mission trip. Any student in good academic standing may apply. All that is required is a completed application, a contact person in charge of the medical mission, and a short essay describing what impact you hope the trip will have on you. Applications may be obtained in the office of student life at your school.

Student Research Awards Program
A competitive student research awards program is available through the Medical Mission Hall of Fame Foundation. The purposes of this program are to assist the Foundation in discovering those individuals, institutions, or organizations that have performed meritorious service in medical mission activities or programs. Students are encouraged to research the work of all individuals, institutions or organizations of particular interest in any country of the world. Research submissions should include: Name of individual to be considered; mailing address; (including country); e-mail address; telephone number; fax number; biography; reasons for consideration by the Medical Mission Hall of Fame Foundation; and letter of endorsement from student’s faculty adviser indicating that the submission represents original work.

Students interested in competing for awards in this program are encouraged to submit nominations from all countries of the world. A monetary award of $500.00 will be made to those students whose submissions are considered meritorious. Multiple awards may be presented to individual students. Further information about this program may be obtained by contacting Dr. Casabianca.
